School children were home, planes were grounded and some highways were closed because of heavy smog in one of northeast China's most heavily populated areas Monday.

India will never forget Russia's friendship, says Manmohan Singh

India will never forget that Russia stood by it during international challenges, when India's resources were limited and when it had few friends, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in Moscow on Monday. 

"Russia has stood by India at moments of great international challenge, when our own resources were limited, and our friends were few. Beyond all the assistance that we have received, it is this last fact that Indians will never forget," the Prime Minister said while delivering a lecture at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. 

"And it is for these reasons that the people of India regard Russian friendship and support as something particularly precious," he said.

The Prime Minister said that over the past six decades, no country has had closer relations with India than Russia and no other country inspires more admiration, trust and confidence among the people of India. 

The institute conferred an honorary doctorate on the Prime Minister. 

Relations between India and Russia are built on abiding links of commerce and culture, which go back many centuries, said the Prime Minister. He noted that India has benefited enormously from Russian support in every aspect of India's national development efforts - like development of heavy industry, power sector, space programme or defence. At the beginning of the last decade of the last century, both the countries went through a difficult period of political and economic change, he said. 

"While Russia showed great resilience and resolve in regaining its place in the world, India opened itself and became more deeply integrated with the world economy," said the Prime Minister.

 Russia was the first country with which India signed a Declaration of Strategic Partnership in 2000, he said.

Malala Yousafzai inspires school curriculum in US

Washington: The 16-year-old Pakistani teen who was shot at by Taliban because she championed education for girls has inspired the development of a school curriculum encouraging advocacy.

George Washington University announced today that faculty members are creating multimedia curriculum tools to accompany a book recently released by the teen, Malala Yousafzai.

Several faculty members will pilot the curriculum early next year for both college and high school instruction. Free of charge, it will focus on themes such as the importance of a woman's voice and political extremism, the university said.

The tools won't just look at the teen's story, but also how the same issues get reflected elsewhere, such as when girls face child marriage and pressures to leave school, said Mary Ellsberg, the director of the university's Global Women's Institute.

"It's going to be really interactive and really encourage students to do ... activities outside of school, it will encourage them to get engaged in the communities and as well to help the Malala Fund directly," Ellsberg said.
The university's Global Women's Institute is partnered with the Malala Fund, a nonprofit that seeks to ensure girls around the world have access to education.

In 2012 when a Taliban gunman walked up to a bus taking Malala and other children home from school in Pakistan's volatile northern Swat Valley and shot Malala in the head and neck. Another girl on the bus was also wounded.

उन्नाव: सोने की तलाश में खुदाई जारी, ASI के लोगों ने बहाया पसीना

उत्तर प्रदेश में उन्नाव जिले के डौंडिया खेड़ा गांव में साधु के सपने के आधार पर खजाने की खोज में खुदाई का पहले दिन का काम खत्‍म हो गया है और अब शनिवार सुबह 10 बजे से फिर खुदाई शुरू होगी.

डौंडिया खेड़ा में उमड़ रही भीड़ को देखतें हुये शनिवार से सुरक्षा और कड़ी की जा रही हैं. शुक्रवार को डौंडिया खेड़ा में पीएसी की डेढ़ कंपनी तैनात थी. शनिवार को इसे बढ़ाकर तीन कंपनी कर दी जायेगी. इसके अलावा स्थानीय पुलिस के चार एसओ सहित 50 पुलिस के जवान लगाये थे जिनकी संख्या शनिवार से बढ़कर 100 जवान और 6 एसओ की हो जाएगी. इसके अलावा एक सीओ भी तैनात किया जायेगा.

इसके साथ ही उन्नाव पुलिस शनिवार से खुदाई स्थल के पास खोमचे और ठेले लगाकर खाने का सामान बेच रहे वेंडरों को भी प्रतिबंधित कर देगी. इसके अलावा स्थानीय पुलिस ने ये भी तय किया है कि जिस जगह पर खुदाई हो रही है वहां पर रात में निगरानी के लिये एक नाइट विजन कैमरा भी लगाया जायेगा.

यहां राजा राव रामबख्श सिंह के खंडहर हो चुके किले के पास 1000 टन सोना दबे होने का दावा है.

सुबह मंदिर में पूजा की गई, जिसके बाद पुरातत्व विभाग की 12 सदस्यों की टीम ने खुदाई शुरू कर दी. सुरक्षा के लिहाज से इलाके की घेराबंदी कर दी गई है. इलाके में धारा 144 भी लगा दी गई है.

कानपुर में नरेंद्र मोदी की हुंकार, गरीबी के सवाल पर कांग्रेस पर साधा निशाना

नरेंद्र मोदी ने यूपीए सरकार पर जमकर सियासी तीर बरसाए. उन्‍होंने कहा कि कांग्रेस देश को बेवकूफ बना रही है. उन्‍होंने कहा कि कांग्रेस ने 10 दिनों में महंगाई कम करने का वादा किया था, पर उसने वादाखिलाफी की. उन्‍होंने कहा कि जिन्‍होंने वादाखिलाफी की है, उसका हिसाब-चुकता जनता चुकता करेगी.

गरीबी के लिए कांग्रेस को जिम्‍मेदार ठहराते हुए मोदी ने कहा, 'कांग्रेस ने ऐसी हालत कर दी है कि देश के गरीबों के घर चूल्‍हे नहीं जल रहे हैं, बाप रोता है, माएं बिलखती हैं, बच्‍चे आंसू पीकर सो रहे हैं. कांग्रेस का अहंकार सातवें आसमान पर है, उसे जनता की परवाह नहीं है.'

भारी जनसैलाब के बीच नरेंद्र मोदी ने कहा, 'चुनाव में सभाएं पहले भी की हैं, कानपुर पहले भी आया हूं और देश के अन्‍य इलाकों में भी जाता हूं, लेकिन इस चमचमाती धूप में मैं ये मानव सागर देख रहा हूं. जहां तक नजर पहुंच रही है, मुंड ही मुंड है. चुनाव में तो आप ताकत दिखाएंगे ही, लेकिन कानपुर की इस रैली ने मुझे जीत लिया है.'

कानपुर के लोगों के प्रति आभार जताते हुए मोदी ने कहा, 'इतनी धूप में भी पलक-पांवड़े बिछाकर अपने जो प्‍यार दिया है और जो स्‍वागत किया है, उसके लिए मैं आपका अभिनन्‍दन करता हूं. धूप में आप जो तपस्‍या कर रहे हैं, मैं उसे बेकार नहीं जाने दूंगा. मैं देख सकता हूं कि देश के कोने-कोने में जो प्‍यार उमड़ रहा है, उस प्‍यार के साथ इस देश को तबाह करने वाली कांग्रेस और उसके साथी दलों के प्रति जनता अपने गुस्‍से को भी प्रकट कर रही है.'

'नरेंद्र मोदी जिंदाबाद' के नारे के बीच उन्‍होंने लोगों से कहा, 'आप जो जयकारा लगाते हैं, वो देश को तबाह करने वालों को तबाह करने का संकल्‍प लेकर आता है.'

मोदी ने जनता से सीधे-सीधे सवाल किया, 'मैं आपसे पूछता हूं, आपलोगों ने जिन कठिनाइयों में जिंदगी गुजारी है, क्‍या आप अपने बच्‍चों को भी ऐसी ही जिंदगी जीने के लिए मजबूर करना चाहते हैं? आप अपने बच्‍चों का भविष्‍य बदलना चाहते हैं? उनके भाग्‍य को सुनिश्चित करना चाहते हैं? अगर आपको अपने बच्‍चों से प्‍यार है और आप उनका भविष्‍य ठीक करना चाहते हैं, तो संकल्‍प करें कि आपको जिसने तबाह किया, उसे आप अपने बच्‍चों का भविष्‍य तबाह नहीं करने देंगे.'

फेसबुक के नए नियम से होगा बच्चों पर गंदी नजर रखने वालों का फायदा

नए नियम के मुताबिक अब नाबालिग भी फेसबुक पर तस्वीरें सार्वजनिक कर सकेंगे. लेकिन इससे बच्चों का उन पर गंदी नजर रखने वालों के चंगुल में आने का खतरा बढ़ गया है.

अब तक 13 से 17 साल के फेसबुक यूजर्स के लिए अपने पोस्ट 'पब्लिक' करने का विकल्प नहीं था. वह सिर्फ अपने 'फ्रेंड्स' और 'फ्रेंड्स ऑफ फ्रेंड्स' के साथ तस्वीरें शेयर कर सकते थे.

लेकिन टीनएजर्स की ओर से मांग का हवाला देकर फेसबुक ने यह प्रोटेक्शन हटा लिया है और अब बच्चे भी अपनी तस्वीरें और वीडियो 'अनजान' लोगों से साझा कर सकेंगे.

फेसबुक के इस फैसले का बड़े स्तर पर विरोध भी शुरू हो गया है. अंग्रेजी वेबसाइट 'डेली मेल' में छपी खबर के मुताबिक, कुछ सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं ने इसे 'आपदा' बताते हुए चेतावनी दी है कि इससे बच्चों के गलत चंगुल में फंसने का खतरा है.

इस कदम से फेसबुक भी ट्विटर के मुकाबले खड़ा हो जाएगा, जहां हर कोई अपनी तस्वीरें सार्वजनिक कर सकता है.

नए नियम के मुताबिक, अब टीन एजर्स की प्राइवेसी बाय डिफॉल्ट 'फ्रेंड्स ओनली' रहेगी. सबसे तस्वीरें साझा करने के लिए उन्हें अपने आप प्राइवेसी सेटिंग को 'पब्लिक' करना होगा. फिलहाल तकनीकी रूप से 13 साल से ऊपर के यूजर्स ही फेसबुक अकाउंट बना सकते हैं. हालांकि अपनी गलत उम्र बताकर कई बच्चे फेसबुक अकाउंट बना चुके हैं. उनकी असल उम्र जांचने का फेसबुक के पास कोई टूल नहीं है.

नए नियम से टीन एजर्स की तस्वीरें बच्चों पर गंदी नजर रखने वाले विकृत मानसिकता के लोगों के पास पहुंच सकती हैं. लेबर्स मीडिया की प्रवक्ता हेलेन गुडमैन ने कहा, 'यह बड़ा ही मूर्खतापूर्ण फैसला है. कई टीन एजर्स को तो पता ही नहीं होगा कि उनकी तस्वीरों को कौन लोग किस तरह से इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं.'

इससे पहले डेली मेल ने ही खुलासा किया था कि टीनएजर्स की लाखों तस्वीरें चुराकर पॉर्न साइट पर डाली जा रही हैं.
